I had a consultation with Terri and really appreciated her honesty and professionalism. She took the time to assess my situation carefully and, instead of trying to sell me a procedure, she was very upfront and told me that I don’t need to spend money or pursue treatment given my limited donor area. That level of honesty is rare in this field. She was kind, patient, and had a very caring, almost motherly approach that made me feel comfortable throughout the conversation. I truly respect her integrity and would highly recommend her to anyone seeking an honest opinion about hair restoration.

After years of contemplating hair transplants I researched and scheduled a consultation with a popular provider in DFW a year ago. They never got my online request and when I called to schedule they referred me back to the online form.

I scheduled a consultation with a second provider and when I arrived the consultant wasn’t sure what my consultation was for (apparently they also sold hair growth products and offered multiple hair growth services). I told her I was interested in hair transplants and she took a cursory glance at my thinning areas and told me I needed 3600 grafts. I asked why the graft count was higher than the 2400 I thought I needed and she wasn’t sure.

I told her I was leaning towards FUE due to concerns around scarring and she told me women don’t get FUE because you have to cut your hair. I told her I didn’t mind cutting my hair so she gave me pricing for FUT and FUE that was nearly the same. I asked if the doctor had experience with black or other ethnic hair types and she said yes and gave me a packet that she said contained his info. Then she asked if I was ready to schedule my FUT.

I was a little discouraged as I got back to my car so I googled “FUT for African American hair” and one of the first results was a post on the Advanced Hair Restoration site that said “FUT is usually not recommended for African/Caribbean hair” so I immediately booked a consultation with them.

My consult with Advanced was phenomenal! I was escorted into a private waiting room with coffee and snacks and then a well lit room for professional camera photos of my potential recipient areas. I met with an extremely knowledgeable consultant (Terri) who took some measurements and recommended 2400 grafts. She answered all my questions and spoke to some of the nuances of African American hair transplants which put me at ease. I asked about FUT vs FUE and she said they didn’t do FUT at all as they want to minimize scarring and downtime. She did say I’d have to shave off some of my braids (I actually have loc extensions) and I told her I was aware and asked how much.

She told me they would cut them for me! I was sold but then Terri stepped out to get my surgeon to assist with the consult. Dr Konty reviewed the photos, confirmed the graft count and then took some measurements as well. If I had any hesitation it was completely erased when Dr Konty recognized that I had SMP done prior (I’d almost forgotten) and I was pleasantly surprised when he asked if I was ok with cutting my locs. I said yes and signed up!

On surgery day the two techs who cut my hair were so kind. They consulted with Dr Konty on my haircut so they could they leave as many of my locs as possible. They also offered to bag my shorn locs for reattachment.

My surgery went well, the team was extremely attentive and made sure I was comfortable all day. I returned for the first wash the next day and Dr Konty stepped in again to make sure everything looked good. Thanks to the techs leaving as many of my locs as possible I had complete coverage of my donor and recipient areas during the healing process.

Someone checked in often over the next few weeks and then Valeria checked to make sure everything was progressing well every three months. After 8 months I was in awe at the progress and got new loc extensions installed. I took professional photos with my hair up for the first time in 10 years, if you know you know!

I am so grateful to Terri, Dr Konty, Valeria and their wonderful team and would definitely recommend them to anyone considering hair transplants!
